Trust-violated victims... that is the perfect description. One minister who has counseled me since this abuse took place expressed his surprise that I hadn't left the church. He was amazed that there could be any kind of spiritual connection for me in this place.
I won't leave this church. I won't give HIM that kind of power over me. But I will agree with the quote above... I do struggle to maintain some kind of internal truce between the abuse I have experienced here and the message of Jesus. Trust does not come so easily anymore...
