People say that “time heals all wounds,” and to a certain extent, that
is true. For time can dull the pain of something that happened to you. But deep
healing only happens when you consciously choose it.
The precise physical acts that happened are not always the most damaging
aspects of abuse, and some abuse may not even be physically painful. Some
things will leave no visible scars.
As a woman, I’ve been taught to meet the needs of others… and that
focusing on myself is selfish. But healing requires a time and agreement to put
myself first.
So if I’m willing to work hard, determined to make lasting changes in my
life, able to find good resources and help, maybe I can heal… and even
thrive.
See "Step By Step" for more about healing.
